Getting Started

How do I sign up?

Contact us at hello@volunteer.box with your organization name and we'll get you set up. There's no password to remember—we use secure email verification to log you in.

Is Volunteer.box really free?

Yes! Organizations with fewer than 100 volunteers can use Volunteer.box completely free. We believe every nonprofit should have access to professional volunteer management tools, regardless of budget. Communication features (email/SMS notifications) use your own messaging accounts.

Do my volunteers need to create accounts?

No. Volunteers never need to log in or remember passwords. Only your organization staff access the platform. Volunteers interact through simple forms for signing up, confirming availability, or providing feedback.

Managing Volunteers

How do I add volunteers?

You can add volunteers individually through the Volunteers page, or import a list from a spreadsheet. Each volunteer gets a profile where you can track their contact info, skills, and availability.

What are traits and groups?

Traits are attributes you define for volunteers—like "has vehicle", "speaks Spanish", or "CPR certified". Groups bundle traits together for easy assignment. For example, create a "Heavy Lifting Team" group with physical ability traits.

Tasks & Scheduling

How do recurring tasks work?

You set up a schedule pattern (daily, weekly, monthly) and how far ahead to generate tasks. Volunteer.box automatically creates tasks based on your pattern, so you don't have to manually create the same tasks each week.

Can I customize task statuses?

Yes! Organization admins can configure custom statuses, categories, and workflows to match how your team already operates.

Data & Privacy

Is our data secure?

Yes. Each organization's data is completely isolated in separate database schemas. Organizations only see their own volunteers, tasks, and projects. We use encryption for data in transit and at rest.

Can I export my data?

Absolutely. You own your data and can export it anytime in standard formats.
